Odille saw how in a matter of seconds, the light had gone out of Claudette; that much was obvious at a glance. And how could that not hurt? After all, regardless of their differences and the distance between them, they were both daughters of the theater. Of music. Of the stage lights. It was not yet a fully explicit or rational conclusion, perhaps, but rather an intuition that had settled deep beneath her skin. Yet it took little else for her to be certain that she didn’t actually like that man, either…Adèle had to call out to her once more before she could get the dancer to move. Odille apologized, and—on this occasion, at least—she seemed to actually listen. Once in the room, Odille made it clear in her own way that she needed nothing—that she could get ready and change into her nightclothes on her own. The truth was, she didn’t want to be a further bother; above all, she desperately wanted to be left alone at last."

De la música. De las luces. Quizá no era todavía una deducción del todo explícita y racional, mas nuevamente una intuición instalada bajo la piel. Pero poco más necesitaba para aseverar que ese hombre, en realidad, tampoco le gustaba...Adèle le tuvo que llamar la atención una vez más, antes de conseguir que la bailarina se moviera. Odille le pidió perdón, y al menos en esa ocasión; ella si pareció escucharle. Una vez en el cuarto, Odille a su modo se encargó de hacerle saber que no necesitaba nada, que ella misma ya podía alistarse y cambiarse a su ropa de cama. La verdad es que ya no quería molestarla de más, y por sobre todo; deseaba con bastante ahínco poder quedarse sola de una vez."
